Pedagogic informations

Training objectives
The fracture mechanics allows to take into account the presence of defects in structures and taken into account when sizing to avoid premature failures.
In addition, the structures are often subjected to amplitude cyclic loading which may vary, the initiation and propagation of fatigue cracks are to be taken into account.

Students are introduced to the linear fracture mechanics by the finite element method in Abaqus. The themes are specific mesh methods, determining stress intensity factors and crack propagation using the elements of cohesion.
