Part 1
Initiation into the technical terminology of composites.
Comparison of the characteristics and the properties of the various composites with regard to other materials.
Identification of the advantages and the inconveniences of composites
Presentation of the various families of manufacturing processes
Part 2
Introduction in the homogenization within the framework of the linear elasticity.
Establishment of foundations necessary for the sizing and for the calculation of heterogeneous structures.
Definition successive of the notions of scale and microstructure.
Presentation of various types of application within the framework of the linear elasticity.
Learning objectives
Having presented the technical vocabulary of composites, this teaching has for aims to present to the students the various composites and their technical specificities compared with those of the other materials: polymer metals. Finally it presents the industrial processes of manufacturing of composites.
After this introduction, we introduce the notions of homogenization which are the foundations of the sizing and the calculation of the heterogeneous structures
